2017 Microsoft Updates For Mac Office 2011
Microsoft has just announced plans to bring support for add-ins for the Mac version of Microsoft Office. Despite being in the initial testing stages, this development is still exciting nonetheless. As of September 25, 2017, macOS 10.13 High Sierra is publically available for all Mac users to install. Office 2016 for Mac is fully supported on High Sierra. For the best experience, we recommend you update Office to version 15.38 or later. Microsoft Office compatibility. As we warned back in June, older Office for Mac will not work with MacOS Catalina. If you have Office 2011 for Mac or before, do NOT update to Catalina because Office will stop working. There’s no workaround for this.

Office for Mac that comes with a Microsoft 365 subscription is updated on a regular basis to provide new features, security updates, and non-security updates. The following information is primarily intended for IT professionals who are deploying Office for Mac to the users in their organizations.

The Office suite includes all the individual applications, such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. All packages are 64-bit only. This isn’t so much to do with Microsoft’s rivalry with Apple, but rather it seems that Microsoft has yet to get around to testing their Office suite of apps on the latest macOS update, which means that there is a chance that some of the Office apps might not work properly after users update to macOS High Sierra.
According to Microsoft’s support page, “Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Lync have not been tested on macOS 10.13 High Sierra, and no formal support for this configuration will be provided.” Note that this only seems to apply to the 2011 version of Office for Mac, so if you are running a newer version like Office 2016 then you should be fine.
However Microsoft does mention that there could be some issues, such as apps unexpectedly quitting. “Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote will install and run on 10.13. Not all Office functionality may be available, and you may encounter stability problems where apps unexpectedly quit.”
